It started in a cold
basement bedroom.
My room is in the basement, and at night it gets cold. Every night I'd turn the heater up just so I could fall asleep. And almost every night I'd wake up a few hours later sweating, because the heater never knew when to stop. Covers off, heater off, back to sleep, then awake again freezing before morning.
It sounds like a small thing. It wasn't. I was training and trying to keep up with school, and broken sleep was wrecking both. I'd show up to practice already drained and sit in class barely able to focus, and my body never really got the recovery it needed. The room I slept in was working against me every single night.
So I tried to fix it myself. The first version of COSI was a wristband I built to read my skin temperature, wired to an ESP32 board and a smart plug. When I got too hot, it switched the heater off. When I got too cold, it switched it back on. It was rough, but for the first time my room was reacting to me instead of the other way around.
COSI is that idea, grown up: your home should follow your body. It works with the watch and smart devices you already have, learns what comfortable means for you, and adjusts on its own so you can just sleep, train and get on with your day.
